'Squid Game' actor Lee Jung-Jae makes history

Lee Jung-jae, the South Korean actor, has made history by becoming the first Asian to win an Emmy Award in the category of Best Actor in a Drama series for a non-English speaking role.

Lee started his career as a fashion model before acting on television. His career as an actor took off after his brekthrough in the romance-drama movie An Affair(1998). The 49-year-old actor was awarded the trophy for his performance as Seong Gi-hun, also known as Player 456 in the television drama series Squid Game, which aired in 2021. Lee beat out other nominees including Bob Odenkirk, Jason Bateman, Adam Scott, Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong.

The awards show took place on September 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
